Del Monte Pineapple Plantation Attacked

More than one hundred heavily armed out laws attacked Del Monte's pineapple plantation in Camp Phillips, Bukidnon killing a guard and wounded two other guards and a local villager.

The guerillas was later identified as the New People's Army by the authorities.

Aside from gunning, the rebels also burned farm's equipments, Del Monte's office building and a fertilizer warehouse.

Del Monte senior manager Ramon Velez on an interview outfaced initial reports that the bandits did this acts for environmental protection but only for extortion.

Velez further said that the company adheres to all laws including environmental protection.

The pineapple plantation employs about 10,000 local workers.

NPA was known to have factions spread all over the Philippines, operating on country sides and was reported to have taking their finances from local businesses and local politicians.

Meanwhile, Catalino Bagaslao Rodriguez Jr., Northern Mindanao Police Regional Director said in an interview over Magnum Radio Wednesday morning that government forces are now providing security to Del Monte Philippnes in the attacked plantation.
