Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Made New One Peso Philippine Coin

Piso is a local term for a monetary denomination here in the Philippines and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas is set to release a new one peso P1 design in commemoration of the country's national hero's 150'th birthday.

The special Jose Rizal P1 coin has been approved to release by the office of the Philippine president and the BSP Monetary Board.

It can be recalled that the country had celebrated the national hero - Jose Rizal's 150'th birthday this year, last June 19, 2011. Rizal was born in 1861 before being executed in Bagumbayan, the current Luneta, on December 30, 1896.

The new designed P1 coin will have a new angle of the national hero, having his face bigger to occupy most of the coin's surface area and beared the markings "150 years", "Republika ng Pilipinas" and "1861-2011."

On the reverse side, a newly designed Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas seal has been furnished with the etchings "1-piso" and "2011."

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas had already produced (past tense) 10 million pieces of this round, grayish, nickel-plated steel coin that is set to circulate the country. It will have the same size and weight as the current P1 coin on the circulation.

Just when the BSP had released a new designs on our paper currencies, the most used local coin will also join the newly dressed monetary pieces of the country.

If not properly announced, it is expected that this new coin will shock most of the Filipinos.
